The Art & Science of Choosing Fabrics – Class 3
May 4, 2014 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
$3 – $85Instructor: Heidi Edwards Dunn
Make your quilts pop, blend, highlight, soothe and excite. Learn how to choose fabrics that do more than “go together.” At the end of the three sessions, you will be prepared to walk into a quilt store and zero in on fabrics that work for your current project, find the perfect accent color in your stash, and look to quilts, photographs, and fabrics for inspiration for your own quilts. The first class helps you think about color and the relationship between them. When you can think about a few “scientific” principles, choosing colors becomes less overwhelming. The second class adds in the fun part – the emotional and inspirational aspects of choosing fabrics that work together to make your quilts reflect you. The third class gives you a chance to put it all together, with input from the class, if you wish. You can start with an inspiration fabric, quilt, photo, or color, and build your quilt’s palette of fabrics from your stash, or find something new at Quilted Threads! This is a no-sew class, however interactive samples will reinforce class concepts. This class is appropriate for both beginner quilters and not-so-beginner quilters. Get more comfortable choosing your own quilt fabrics. It’s fun!
Heidi Edwards Dunn has lived in Henniker with her family for 17 years. She has been quilting for longer than that, and learned to sew oh, so many more years before that from her mom. Heidi is a juried member of the League of NH Craftsmen, and her work has hung in exhibits in the region. She now mostly makes framed wall art quilts. Heidi loves walking into Quilted Threads and dreaming of all the fabric combinations possible for all the quilts she doesn’t have time to make.
This is a 3-class series: April 27 (1-4), May 1 (6-8), & May 4 (1-3)
